Broadway Central, Oldham
Resource Efficiency

Resource efficiency measures were incorporated into the Broadway Central scheme to reduce water consumption and waste.

The Broadway Central scheme comprised 8 new units ranging from 7,643 to 26,996 sq ft. Water efficient fixtures were incorporated into the design, such as low flow taps and dual flush toilets with reduced effective flush volumes. Pulsed water meters were also installed on the mains water supplies to monitor water consumption. The contractor, Triton Construction Ltd, focussed on reducing waste during construction to ensure that any waste that was generated was reused, recycled and diverted from landfill wherever possible. The project achieved the maximum of 3 credits under the BREEAM certification scheme for reducing waste (by achieving under 1.2 tonnes of waste per 100m2 gross internal floor area) and also diverted 93.6% of waste from landfill.
