Chancerygate has had a productive year in fundraising and volunteering, in total, we have dedicated over 240 hours to volunteering for meaningful causes and raised and donated over £37,000 to support 12 different charities and organisations. These contributions have supported local communities with foodbank donations, aid to youth centres, initiatives to combat homelessness, and funding for charities offering support to women in refuge.
Little Hearts Matter
Chancerygate’s chosen charity for 2024 was Little Hearts Matter. Over the year, we held a variety of internal and external fundraising events, raising over £27,000 – an impressive 90% of our £30,000 target.
Our main fundraising effort was the Edale Skyline challenge in the Peak District. This demanding 32km walk, with an ascent of 1,071m, saw 30 members of our team take on the challenge to support this incredible cause.
Site donations
We remain committed to giving back to the local communities where we build, donating £6,250 to organisations and charities near our developments currently under construction.
Southwater Youth Project – Chancerygate, Harmonix Construction, and Alpha Property Lending donated £2,250 on behalf of Audio Park to the Southwater Youth Project. This donation will help the project continue providing a safe, positive, and supportive space for young people to gather on Wednesday nights at its Youth HangOut.
Oldham Foodbank – Chancerygate and Hines donated £2,000 to Oldham Foodbank, located near the Pioneer development in Oldham. Supported by the Trussell Trust, the foodbank used the donation to purchase food and supplies to assist those in need in the run-up to Christmas.
In addition, team members from both Chancerygate and Hines volunteered their time to help organise and pack food donations, further supporting the foodbank’s efforts.
Southall Black Sisters – In November, Chancerygate and Magrock donated £2,000 to Southall Black Sisters on behalf of our Hayes development, Harlequin Industrial Park. This donation will help SBS continue providing specialist support to Black, minoritised, and migrant victim-survivors, including assisting with service users’ legal fees.
Volunteering
Adding to our volunteering efforts with Little Hearts Matter and Oldham Foodbank, we have also supported women in refuge and contributed to educational initiatives for children and young adults.
In February, we held a Valentines Day Afternoon Tea for the Marylebone Project. The organisation provides shelter, support, and guidance for homeless women in London. Ten colleagues assisted in organising the event from setting up and decorating, serving tea and cakes and getting to know the women at the refuge. We handed out goodie bags to all the women who attended which included, teabags, chocolates, shower gel, hand cream, nail varnish and more.
We visited The City Academy in Hackney and New City College in Rainham. At The City Academy, we hosted a ‘Careers in Focus’ session in partnership with IntoUniversity, offering insights into various careers within the real estate industry. Later in the year, we visited New City College, where we conducted speed interviews with students, providing constructive feedback after each session.
We hosted a site visit for students from The Land Collective, who were welcomed onsite by our team and Magrock for a tour of our upcoming development, Harlequin Industrial Park in Hayes. This visit provided students with the opportunity to explore a live site and gain a deeper understanding of the development and construction process.
Employee fundraising
A number of Chancerygate employees took on personal challenges to raise funds for causes important to them. In total, over £10,000 was raised to support LandAid and the NSPCC, with £3,700 coming from Chancerygate staff and match donations.
To support LandAid, the Warrington team participated in a sleep-out event at Sale Rugby Club. Additionally, six team members from across the company took part in the Industrial REIT Source to Sea challenge, collectively running 350km over three days – from the source of the Thames Path near Cirencester to the Thames Barrier.
Head of investment and asset management, Simon Cowley, also took part by running the London Marathon in support of the NSPCC.
KidsOut Giving Tree
For the fourth consecutive year, Chancerygate swapped Secret Santa for the KidsOut Giving Tree, donating over 55 gifts for children in refuge. These children have escaped domestic violence and were forced to flee their homes, leaving all their possessions behind.
