Our Priorities

In 2023 we carried out a materiality analysis to determine the most important ESG issues for the business to focus on. This considered both how our business is impacted by sustainability issues but also how our activities impact society and the environment (known as double materiality). It was undertaken to ensure that our strategic priorities and the targets within them were appropriate and reflected our stakeholders’ expectations.

Environmental Priorities

Net Zero Carbon

Our aim is to become a net zero carbon business and to support our building occupiers to transition to net zero.

Our focus is on understanding and reducing the operational and whole life carbon of our new developments and retrofitting our managed assets to improve energy efficiency and EPC ratings. We are also working to reduce our own corporate emissions year on year.

Biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions

Green infrastructure is incorporated into our new developments wherever practical to support biodiversity, wellbeing and climate resilience.

Finding sufficient and suitable space on our sites to incorporate green infrastructure can be challenging, especially on tight sites within urban fringes, but we recognise the value that such spaces can bring. Some of our new developments now feature green roofs and, where practical, we provide amenity areas for tenants with biodiverse landscaping.

Resource Use and Circular Economy

We are promoting a circular economy by reducing resource use and driving down waste.

Our new units feature water saving equipment as standard and we work closely with our supply chain to reduce waste and promote diversion away from landfill. We also focus on recycling in our offices.

Social Value Priorities

Putting People First

Our aim is to create positive working environments that support wellbeing and inclusivity.

For our employees we aim to support and promote a healthy lifestyle and have embedded an inclusive culture by providing a range of benefits and undertaking EDI initiatives. We also design indoor and outdoor health and wellbeing features into our new units.

Opportunities For All

We are working to create a workplace and industry that reflects our diverse society by enabling opportunities for all.

Our focus is on recruiting, retaining and developing diverse representation across all job levels within our workforce and supporting diverse new entrants into our industry. We are actively working with partners such as The Land Collective and Real Estate Balance to achieve these aims, and our Chancerygate Foundation directly supports African and Caribbean heritage students to access the real estate profession.

Communities

Our aim is to give back to society via our charity work and leave a positive impact in the communities we work in.

We support local businesses by providing sustainable spaces for them to grow. By supporting charities and community organisations, we aim to leave a positive impact in every community we work in. We also operate an active employee volunteering and fundraising programme.

Governance Priorities

Transparency

Our aim is to develop transparent ESG reporting to demonstrate our performance.

We are working on identifying and measuring key ESG criteria that will enable us to demonstrate our performance. We achieve BREEAM certification for all our new developments to demonstrate their credentials and in 2024 we achieved Planet Mark certification for our carbon footprint.

Good Governance and Ethical Business

Chancerygate is committed to conducting all of our business in a transparent, responsible and ethical manner.

Our comprehensive corporate governance policies and processes set out our expectations and the actions that need to be undertaken to ensure we continue to meet our legal obligations and best practice in connection with corporate governance.

Sustainable Supply Chains

We are working with and supporting our supply chain to deliver sustainably.

As an industry leader and a responsible business, we promote the highest standards for ethics and business conduct, both within our business or in our supply chains. Our Supplier Code of Conduct sets out the minimum requirements expected from all of our suppliers and we work closely with our key partners, such as principal contractors, to implement detailed best practice and ensure alignment.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

In 2016, the United Nations launched 17 goals to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030. Our priorities are aligned with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
